Red Poha

Red poha is another form of flattened rice. When mixed with water or other liquid its increases by almost three to four times of its original size. When compared with the white poha, Red Poha takes more time to puff. However, red poha is more nutritious and healthier than its white colored variant. It is also known as kanda poha and is popular in Maharashtra and Karnataka. It is also known as Avalakki. Red poha is however not readily available throughout the country and its availability is slightly limited.

Red poha is popularly mixed with onion, potatoes and peanuts and served. It quick in making and is a suitable breakfast dish. Some people refer to it as upma as well. Red poha can also be served along with grated cheese and truffle oil, spinach or Yoghurt. Red poha is also very popular amongst kids.
